Google’s tip for successful online marketing,
“Increase the web accessibility”
The Korea International Trade
Association (Chairman: In-ho Kim) co-hosted “Online Marketing Optimization Strategy
Seminar with Google” at Trade Tower in Samsung-dong on 17th with the
Google headquarter. Over 160 participants including webmasters and overseas
sales personnel of trade companies and executives and staff members of small
and medium-sized businesses joined the seminar at which utilization of
tradeKorea.com (B2B), Kmall24.com (B2C), and overseas trade information portal, tradeNAVI
was explained. In addition, engineers from the Google headquarter shared their
know-how on establishing a homepage with search engine optimization (SEO).
Engineer In-hyuk Seo said, “search for your own homepage from a foreign
buyer’s position,” and emphasized the importance of web accessibility and
creating foreign-buyer-friendly site. He specially shared his analysis results
on the homepages of the participating businesses and pointed out that a number
of businesses (approximately 10 of them) among the participants have homepages
that disallow the access of a search engine robot, not even satisfying the
precondition for SEO. The contents of the homepages that disallow the access of
a search engine robot are not exposed as users’ search results as the
information cannot be retrieved. Such search engine accessibility can be
checked by typing “homepage address/robots.txt” in the address bar.
Moreover, the Google advised the
participants and local businesses to compose text-oriented information rather
than fancy images, to provide definite page information using the meta tag, and
to utilize addresses that hint page contents and to optimize mobile homepages
for the best search engine results.
A special program, 1-on-1 individual homepage clinic, especially received
the participants’ favorable responses as it provided customized consulting
about SEO. In case of one participating business, they were having some
difficulties as its website was not brought up on the Google search, but they
were able to seek a solution from the Google to structure a text-oriented
website.
Meanwhile, a presentation on “Taobao and Global T-mall Marketing Strategy” by In-chul Yu, the CEO of maiBIZ, received much attention as reversed overseas direct purchase is growing popular and many businesses are interested in online marketing. As presented, KITA holds a monthly workshop on online international marketing collaboratively with inter-agencies and outstanding companies in order to support domestic companies with their online export marketing.
