The seminar was participated by 250 people including business webmasters and officials in charge of overseas business and also the search team from Google headquarter paid a visit to Korea to attend the seminar and introduced how to set up a homepage optimized to open website settings and search engine, and through “a 1:1 clinic for homepage” the team identified problems of homepage of domestic companies and provided them with ways to enhance the homepage.

The KITA and Google analyzed about 200 homepages of the participating companies in advance to figure out shortcomings, and were praised in the seminar for offering practical help to participating companies by specifically introducing ways to be more efficiently shown in search results. The experts emphasized strategies of having right understanding of search engine; having correct setting of website for helping search robot’s normal collection activities; refraining from use of non-standard flash; and providing website optimized to mobile setting as major promotion strategies for homepage.

“A 1:1 clinic for homepage”, provided as a special program, were very popular among participants since it was offered in a way that companies in healthcare, electronic components, food, beauty care, and service sector respectively receive individual consulting and have discussion together. In addition, the seminar was heated up, for instance corporations interested in Google advertisement and officials from Google gathered together and have discussion on more effective ads.

In fact, “a company A” manufacturing blinds has URL address by menu, consisted with words unrelated to the contents of webpage so the address was criticized since those websites have less possibility to appear in search engine, and users are hard to find such information online.

Homepage of “a company B” was found to have less search frequency and publicity effect cut in half as it is not compatible with other browsers except for Explore due to excessive use of flashes. A representative director of the company B said while giving his thought on the seminar that “I though making such flamboyant webpage would be helpful in promoting the business and I did not know it would bring adverse effect so I would restructure the homepage right away.”

“In the future, openess and sharing will be at the center of overseas marketing and internet business. Domestic companies will be able to maximize their publicity effects in global search engines such as Google, Bing or Yahoo when they well organize good and critical contents while understanding what search engines are.” said Lee Jun-young, head of BetterWeb team of Google, who led the seminar.

“Sending information quickly and easily for target buyers through search engine is a very significant and sophisticated marketing technique. In the future, the KITA together with Google will actively support online marketing efforts of domestic companies thorugh offering a series of lectures under different subjects such as basics and use of web search, openess and security, right understanding toward Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and how to use webmaster tools." mentioned Sohn Tae-kyu, head of e-Biz Services Group of KITA.
